A beeper or pager is a one-way (receiving) short messaging communications that is introduced during the 50’s but I think it became popular during the 90’s. Later developments of pagers allow the user to respond with a short message. At present it is still used by some markets and businesses. As far as I know, there are no more pager companies/services here in the Philippines...
I remember the time when I used to call the operator, I’m 6 or 7 at that time (not sure), and the operator will ask your message. You will relay your message and the operator will repeat it to make sure it is correct. A little bit awkward and time consuming in my opinion. Well cell phones are not popular that time. Thanks to SMS of cell phones nowadays, it becomes faster and gives you privacy.
Here are the pictures of my dad’s pager, it is still in our cabinet but I’m not sure if it is still working. It runs with an AAA battery.
